I am a huge fan of anything involving tomatoes! Sun dried or oven roasted, cooked or raw, red sauce, ketchup, anything tomato… you name it. So, I am particularly fond of a good Bloody Mary. I have found that I really love when it involves a lot of goodies. A delicious beverage and a snack all in one! If you are looking for a new twist on an old cocktail, here you go!

Wade’s Bloody Mary Recipe
3 cups tomato juice
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
3 tablespoons sweet and sour mix
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
3/4 teaspoon Tobasco sauce
1/2 teaspoon Tapatio, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon or more freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon horse radish (prepared)
1 teaspoon green olive brine
Celery salt (to sprinkle on top)
Coarse salt (for rim of glass)
Your favorite vodka
(makes 1qt. of mix)
Combine all of the ingredients, except the vodka and celery salt, by blending or stirring vigorously. Refrigerate until chilled. When you are ready to enjoy, use 1-2 ounces of vodka followed by the chilled bloody mary mix. Add bacon, pickled asparagus and a dash of celery salt for the best Bloody Mary you have ever tasted! Cheers!

Wade’s Quick Pickled Asparagus
teaspoon of mustard seed
teaspoon whole pepper corns
3 cloves of garlic crushed
1 teaspoon of dill
1 or 2 bay leaves
1 bunch of asparagus
1 cup of seasoned rice vinegar
1/4 cup of water
1 small shallot sliced
5 whole allspice
Heat all ingredients over medium high heat in a 10 inch frying pan make sure the liquid covers the asparagus and simmer for 30 seconds. Remove from heat and place all ingredients in a glass baking dish or other dish that allows the asparagus to be completely submerged in the brine. Place in fridge until cold and serve immediately. If you plan on storing them longer add another half a cup or so of water to dilute the vinegar.
are you drinking the fruits of Wade’s labor right now? If so, I’ll be right over!!
hahaha…yes, we should have you over for drinks soon!
This is the ideal asnewr. Everyone should read this

PLease do and let me know what you think. What is your favorite Bloody Mary recipe?
Wow that looks amazing. Why doesn’t he serve more drinks with bacon!?!
ps Great blog!!
Thanks Kimberly! He should have bacon on hand behind the bar at all times!
Everything is better with bacon.
Hell to the yes!
Brittany, my husband is enjoying *almost* everyday his Bloody Mary. You know, like in Mad Men, he comes home, me tending him his drink in a hand and the newspaper in the other….(he would choke reading this). Seriously– I’m looking forward to see him try this new twist, looks delish
Cheers!

You are so cute. Let me know what he thinks of a surprise stick of bacon one of these days!
everyone loves a meal in a glass! Looks dee-lish…
Yes, a meal in a glass that involves bacon = perfection!
Looks & sounds yummy but what is Tapatio?
Hi! Thanks! Tapatio is a super rich hot sauce with nice heat without a vinegar flavor. If you only use Tabasco in a bloody mary it can taste too much like vinegar. I like to use Tapatio to bring out the richness in the spices.
They make bacon vodka, that’s the only kind I use in mine now!
Yum! Bacon anything!

Brittany – thanks for the answer on the Tapatio – where do I find it?
Hi Leslie! I don’t know where you live but I’m pretty sure it is sold at most grocery stores or you can find it here:
Bacon.. Brilliant, indeed. I’ll Be trying this with my homemade cracked black peppercorn vodka instead of the pepper sauces, but horseradish is a must!! Cheers!
HI Trisha! Yum, homemade cracked peppercorn vodka! Let me know how that is in it!
I have made this for my hubby. Never tried the Tapatio. Must find it. I have put 2 Serrano Chiles into a bottle of vodka. It gives a great spicy kick to the Bloody Mary. Hubby loves it
Yum, that sounds great! I will have to mix it up and try the 2 Serrano Chiles. Thanks!
Try barbeque rub instead of salt to rim the glass…awesome!
Ooohhhh…that sounds amazing! Thanks for the tip!
