Happy Labor Day! Given the holiday, I thought today would be the perfect time to talk about “staycations”. I think that the one night vacation is a thing of beauty. Have you ever tried it? It is a great way to just get away, relax and recharge without going very far or even leaving your own city. We recently spent a night at the new The Residence Inn Marriott at LAX and did just that. It was a fun little mini get away!
The entire hotel was full of cool, modern LA based art. I especially loved the color changing picture behind the front desk showing a mash up of all things iconic to LA.
Chillin in the lobby…
The lobby is very comfortable and spacious and offers plenty of places to sit and relax and is also where they serve their FREE hot breakfast in the morning! They have a flight monitor, luggage scale, and FREE WIFI throughout the hotel which is convenient for travelers.
All of the rooms are fresh, spacious suites with large live/work areas and full kitchens. You are encouraged to bring your own food and beverages but if you don’t have time you can have them grocery shop for you! There is even a bbq area out by the pool. If you would rather just pick up a bite to eat there they have 3 of my faves…Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s, and Z Pizza. Our room had a 180 degree view of airport runways which is perfect for aviation geeks!
Lounging by the fire pit at night with a glass of wine is the perfect way to enjoy the outdoor space and unwind!
One of my favorite parts of this one nighter was the robot butler. He is a prototype that they are trying out. I requested a shower cap in the morning and this showed up at my door. I was impressed and he was so darn cute. Its the future people, get ready!
I would highly recommend a “staycation” at The Residence Inn Marriott LAX if you are looking to relax, have work to do or have an early flight to catch. It’s conveniently located blocks from the airport with a free shuttle every 20 min., is close to the beaches that you can access by their Ocean Express Trolly, and close to the 405 for easy access into LA.
Have you had a “staycation” lately? I would love to hear all about it!
I have been a huge fan of Birchbox for years (you can see my post from 2012 about it here) so I was thrilled to be invited to preview the pop up shop going on at The Grove this weekend!
It was literally 94 degrees here at 10am! Can you tell that I’m melting?
There is Birchbox shopping and beauty treatments!
You can “build your own Birchbox” for men and women for $15! You get to pick 5 products for your box. So fun!
Heres what I chose…a box for me and a box for Wade!

Last week I met with Chelsea, PR Manager at The Citadel Outlets, to chat about all of the awesome up and coming events they have going on there. She asked if I wanted to meet for breakfast and honestly I didn’t even realize Ruby’s Diner opened that early (7:30am and shops open at 10am). We weren’t there quite that early but I thought it was a great way to start a day of shopping! The next time my mom (my favorite all day shopping partner) is in town we will have to start there with breakfast!
Breakfast was delicious and just what I needed before I hit the stores!
My first stop was Kate Spade! I love the vibe of the store and they are always having amazing sales! On this day everything was an additional 70% off the already discounted price!
My score of the day was this gorgeous, knee length leopard print coat originally marked $500 and I ended up getting it for $68! I can never pass up the leopard print! I am a big fan of the whimsical Kate Spade clutches and got this one for $22! You can never have too many!
Some of my other favorite stores at The Citadel are American Apparel, Billabong, Converse, DC Shoes, GAP, H&M, Lucky Brand Jeans, Volcom, Michael Kors, Max Studio, Kenneth Cole, Coach, Banana Republic, A/X Armani Exchange, BCBG Max Azaria, Calvin Klein, Levi’s and True Religion. You can see the full list of stores here and get your shop on!
Saturday night was perfect for the White Light White Night party in El Segundo benefitting Walk With Sally, a non-profit that provides mentoring support programs to children of parents or siblings with cancer. There were delicious tastings of beer, wine, food and sweets from over 40 of the best restaurants in the South Bay along with a ton of awesome things up for auction and a performance by the Neil Diamond tribute band Super Diamond! What a night for a great cause!
1) Me and Mary dressed in our best white! No red wine for me…ha! 2) The rum milk and oreos from Cake Bakeshop were one of our favorites of the night 3) I loved the KISS wine bottle display at the Rock’n Fish booth. 4) The beer at Camp Brew co. was deelish. 5) How cool is this bike that was up for auction? Perfect for cruising The Strand.
These awesome shoes on the feet of one of the guys from Super Diamond, of course!
See how you can get involved with Walk With Sally, and get tickets for their next upcoming event at the new Nordstrom before it opens in the South Bay!
Skincare line Jurlique recently celebrated their 30th anniversary and threw a gorgeous breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants in LA, Republique, to celebrate!
How gorgeous is this table?
They use roses as one of their main ingredients so the room was full of them! For their anniversary they made a limited edition Precious Rose Hand Cream that smells amazing and of course sold out immediately!
Any day that starts with roses and donuts is going to be a good day!
I have been obsessed with these 3 products ever since the breakfast. I keep the Rosewater Balancing Mist in my fridge and love spritzing my face first thing in the morning, on a hot afternoon and when I get home from work. It is so refreshing! The Essence of Rose Roll-On Fragrance smells light and fresh. I like to keep that in my purse. The Rose Hand Cream smells delicious and is great ON MY HANDS. I got a little crazy and used it as body lotion the other day along with the roller ball and it was waaaaay too much! Thank goodness it calmed down before I got where I was going. Checkout all things Jurlique here and get free shipping the entire month of August!
