Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa

Last month I had a long time client/friend get married on Waikiki Beach in Oahu and we had the pleasure of spending a week on this beautiful island at The Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa and it was absolutely fabulous! The lobby was gorgeous, the customer service was top notch, and we were within walking distance of everything. Our room was absolutely amazing with an ocean facing window and ocean view balcony. We spent a lot of time out there. It was paradise!

The stunning view from our balcony. It doesn’t get much better then this! We actually ordered food to go from Arancino di Mare  on our first night and had a romantic dinner under the stars.

I loved waking up to a view of the ocean every morning. It felt like a dream!

The bathroom was spacious and modern with plenty of room for me and the hubs to get ready at the same time. We need this set up at home!

IMG_3224
A “Welcome Mai Tai” and shrimp cocktail at the poolside lounge The Moana Terrace was the perfect way to start our trip!

IMG_3250DK’S Crab Ramen with Asian Truffle Broth with cilantro, Thai basil and mild jalapeños at Sansei was my favorite meal of the trip! How decadent can you get?!

IMG_3249
The Fresh Hawaiian Ahi Carpacciov Garnished with cilantro & chopped peanuts in a Thai chili vinaigrette at Sansei was so fresh and delicious I could of eaten the whole plate myself!

Beach wedding ready! I am wearing my favorite summer dress by Geisha Designs.

We rented a jeep for a day for around $100 at the Enterprise that is located in the hotel and gave ourselves a tour of the island. Our first stop was The Dole Plantation. I was obsessed with getting pineapple ice cream and doing the garden maze. It was a complete zoo of tourists but the ice cream was well worth it! Our next stop was the famous Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck in Haleiwa and it did not disappoint. If you like shrimp, garlic and getting messy you are in for a treat. By the time I was done my hands were covered in sauce and I was thrilled to see a giant outdoor sink. With our bellies full of shrimp deliciousness we headed down the road to Waimea Valley where we took a beautiful 1/2 mile walk through the Botanical Gardens to the majestic Waimea Falls where you can swim. It was magical. On the way in/out there is a cafe that serves snacks, beer and wine as well as a gift shop. There is nothing like a cold beer and a little shopping on a hot afternoon!

All in all I found this island to be magical. It dazzled me with its beauty and its wonderful people. I will definitely be back one day. There is still more to eat and see like Pearl Harbor and the Doris Duke house. In the meantime I will just close my eyes and go to my “happy place” on the balcony at The Waikiki Beach Marriott over looking the ocean and try to keep the Aloha spirit alive!

A Staycation at The Residence Inn Marriott LAX

Happy Labor Day! Given the holiday, I thought today would be the perfect time to talk about “staycations”. I think that the one night vacation is a thing of beauty. Have you ever tried it? It is a great way to just get away, relax and recharge without going very far or even leaving your own city. We recently spent a night at the new The Residence Inn Marriott at LAX and did just that. It was a fun little mini get away!

LAXAX - Exterior

The entire hotel was full of cool, modern LA based art. I especially loved the color changing picture behind the front desk showing a mash up of all things iconic to LA.

Chillin in the lobby…

The lobby is very comfortable and spacious and offers plenty of places to sit and relax and is also where they serve their FREE hot breakfast in the morning! They have a flight monitor, luggage scale, and FREE WIFI throughout the hotel which is convenient for travelers.

All of the rooms are fresh, spacious suites with large live/work areas and full kitchens. You are encouraged to bring your own food and beverages but if you don’t have time you can have them grocery shop for you! There is even a bbq area out by the pool. If you would rather just pick up a bite to eat there they have 3 of my faves…Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s, and Z Pizza. Our room had a 180 degree view of airport runways which is perfect for aviation geeks!

LAXAX - Fire Pit

Lounging by the fire pit at night with a glass of wine is the perfect way to enjoy the outdoor space and unwind!

One of my favorite parts of this one nighter was the robot butler. He is a prototype that they are trying out. I requested a shower cap in the morning and this showed up at my door. I was impressed and he was so darn cute. Its the future people, get ready!

I would highly recommend a “staycation” at The Residence Inn Marriott LAX if you are looking to relax, have work to do or have an early flight to catch. It’s conveniently located blocks from the airport with a free shuttle every 20 min., is close to the beaches that you can access by their Ocean Express Trolly, and close to the 405 for easy access into LA.

Have you had a “staycation” lately? I would love to hear all about it!

Friday Faves

Happy Friday Everyone! I can’t believe the weekend is here again already. Woohoo! I have a ton of friends with birthdays this weekend so I will be partying! I guess I get along well with Leo’s! What are you up to? Here are some of my faves this week…

* I want to give a special Happy Birthday shout out to my friend Sarah. Today is her actual birthday and she is going to be sipping a 40 out of a paper bag watching Straight Outta Compton while I’m working. Being a huge fan of East and West coast rap (especially from the 80’s and early 90’s) and N.W.A. this movie is def on my radar.

* Love designer clothes and accessories but not the hefty price tags? Check out Vestiaire Collective a designer resale site!

* The perfect way to ease out of summer and into fall is with the Rooftop Film Club in LA, NY, and London! Next up in LA is The Big Lebowski on Wed. Aug 26th at 8pm.

* Aug 15th at 3pm in LA there is an LA Beard and Moustache competition. I am slightly intrigued and slightly grossed out.

* On what would of been his 95th birthday, Aug. 16th at 3pm, San Pedro. CA will host The Laughing Heart – A Tribute to Charles Bukowski.

* Check out everything else going on this week in LA here!

* I have a lot of friends who are having babies these days and I just love Children Inspire Design. Eco-friendly, inspiring, global art for children.

* I’ve been using ProfilePRO shampoo and conditioner for the last month and love what it does for my dry, bleached hair. Its really cool, you fill out a hair questionnaire online and they whip up a custom blend just for your hair AND they put your name on the bottles. This would be perfect for girls going off to college, sharing a bathroom! Right now through Aug. 28th take 40% off a trial size with coupon code: LL40OFF

* I just heard about Try The World and I think its brilliant! It is a subscription box curated with specialty foods from different countries. The perfect gift for any foodie! This month’s box is France and looks amazing! Discover the world through food!

* If you are going to be in Chicago between now and the end of the year and plan on going on a major shopping spree you  might want to check out this amazing deal with Le Méridien Chicago and Neiman Marcus! Located just steps away from one of the country’s most elite shopping destinations, LE MÉRIDIEN CHICAGO – OAKBROOK CENTER has joined forces with Neiman Marcus to offer their exclusive Neiman Marcus Shopping Package. Priced at $1,059, the Neiman Marcus Shopping Package encompasses all things luxury. 7 YEARS + 7 CONTINENTS + 1 JOURNALIST = SURPRISING PERSPECTIVES ON THE “GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH!”

When going to photograph this book I thought I should “cute it up” with some quintessential things that represent America. Well, I didn’t have an apple pie but I did have a watermelon and beer! Perfect! I was about to say,”who doesn’t like watermelon and beer” but I quickly thought of one person who does’t like watermelon…Liz. Anyway, this book is fantastic. I have always been intrigued with other countries and cultures and this book really lays it all out there. Good and bad opinions, impressions, statistics, ideas. Wow, I thought I had a pretty good sense of how America was perceived but after reading this I see I had no idea. I learned so much and it was really eye opening. It has further fueled my passion to travel within my own country as well as abroad! I would highly recommend this as an end of the summer read. It is quick, just 225 pages and will open your mind to different cultures and ideas! Happy reading!
